Tree Removal in Columbia, MO
Taking down a tree means more than cutting it at the base — it means controlling where each piece falls and getting the wood off your property when we're done. We work on everything from small ornamentals to 80-foot cottonwoods that have outgrown their space. The job ends when the ground is clear, not when the tree hits the ground.

How It Works
Our Process for Tree Removal
- 1
Site visit
We come out and look at the tree in person — size, lean, what's underneath it, what's nearby. You get a written quote before we schedule anything.
- 2
Access and setup
We identify where equipment needs to go and how to protect your lawn, fence, or landscaping during the job. Sometimes hand tools are the only safe option near structures.
- 3
Sectional removal
For trees near buildings or fences, we cut from the top down in sections and lower each piece with rigging rather than dropping the whole tree at once.
- 4
Felling open trees
When there's enough clear space, we notch and fell the tree in one or two pieces. It's faster and costs less when conditions allow.
- 5
Wood clearing
We cut the trunk and main limbs into manageable sections and haul them out. Brush goes through the chipper. The stump stays unless you've added grinding.
- 6
Final cleanup
We rake the area, blow down hard surfaces, and do a walk-through with you before we leave. We're not done until the yard looks like we were there to help.
What's included
- Full takedown of the tree from ground level up
- Sectional rigging when the tree is close to structures
- All wood and brush removed from your property
- Chipping of smaller limbs and brush on site
- Cleanup of the immediate work area before we leave
What's not included
- Stump removal — that's a separate service and a separate quote
- Damage repair to fences, lawn, or landscaping that existed before we arrived
- Hauling gravel, sod, or fill dirt to level the area where the stump was
Real Situations
Common Scenarios in Columbia
A homeowner in northeast Columbia has a 70-foot cottonwood dropping large limbs on their detached garage.
We section the tree from the top down using rigging to control each drop zone. Nothing lands on the garage. The wood comes out the same day and the stump gets quoted separately if they want it gone.
A family near the MU campus wants a crowded backyard cleared of three overgrown trees before putting in a patio.
We assess all three trees at once and give a combined quote. The work gets scheduled in one visit when possible. All wood and brush leaves with us so the contractor has a clean site.
A homeowner in south Columbia has a dead elm standing 40 feet from the house with no clear fall zone.
Dead wood is unpredictable, so we treat it like a hazard tree from the start. We use rigging and work from a bucket when needed. No felling — piece by piece until it's down.
Columbia Context
Why this matters in Columbia
Columbia has a lot of older neighborhoods — Benton-Stephens, Old Southwest, parts of east Columbia — where trees planted 40 or 50 years ago have grown into power lines and roof lines. Cottonwoods and silver maples are everywhere, and both species get large fast and tend to fail in ways that don't give much warning. Clay soils here also mean shallow root systems, which makes large trees more likely to tip in wet conditions.
Straight Talk
About pricing & scope
Price depends on tree height, trunk diameter, how close the tree is to a structure, and how much rigging the job requires. A small tree in an open yard costs far less than a large one overhanging a roof. If we find rot or structural issues once we're into the tree, we'll stop and talk to you before the scope changes.
